The Procontrol P13 system features a comprehensive range of I/O modules for analog, digital and pulse input and output signals. The new analog input module series includes modules for the acquisition of voltage or current input signals in the typical range of process control as well as resistance temperature detection (RTD) and thermocouple/millivolt acquisition. Almost all existing analog input modules of the classic Procontrol P13 portfolio can be seamlessly replaced by the new module series.

The heart of the P13 analog output module is a custom local bus UART and a digital signal processing engine. The core interfaces analog to digital front-end circuitry, implemented in two different variants:
-70AI01a, 70AI02a: Single multiplexed 16-bit successive approximation converter and precision front-end circuitry to collect current or voltage signals. With this acquisition unit, the signal is collected by the advanced signal processing engine.
-70AI03a, 70AI04a, 70AI05a: Individual 20-bit sigma delta converters and precision front-end circuitry to collect input signals. These individual acquisition units are electrically connected to the advanced signal processing engine, which is capable of performing floating point math to perform the appropriate linearization and compensation for each different sensor type and connection.

Using the front panel configuration port and P13 Configurator software, the module can be monitored and configured to suit different applications.

A major advancement over traditional P13 output modules is the ability to use the full local bus address range of each module and configure each channel individually with a separate non-contiguous address (except 70AI01a). In addition, each channel can be simulated/forced directly from the P13 Configurator (except 70AI01a and 70AI05a) for easy application verification after modifications or upgrades.
